How To Use This Mothers Day Countdown

Our Mother’s Day Countdown tool gives you a live, ticking countdown to Mother’s Day so you’ll never be caught off guard. Select your region first.
Mother’s Day falls on different dates depending on where you live. In the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand it’s the second Sunday in May, while in the UK and Ireland it’s Mothering Sunday, which falls three weeks before Easter and can land anywhere from early March to mid-April.

Once you’ve chosen your region, pick the year you’d like to count down to. The tool automatically defaults to the nearest upcoming Mother’s Day. If this year’s date has already passed, it jumps ahead to next year.

Below the countdown you’ll find a result card with the exact date, a year-progress bar, and useful facts including the number of weekdays and weekends remaining which is handy for planning when to shop for a gift. The tool also shows when Mother’s Day falls for the next three years in your selected region so you can plan ahead.

When is Mother’s Day in the US vs the UK?

In the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, Mother’s Day is the second Sunday in May. In the UK and Ireland, it’s called Mothering Sunday and falls three weeks before Easter, usually in March or early April. Our tool supports both so just select your region.

Why is Mother’s Day on a different date in different countries?

The US holiday was established by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and fixed to the second Sunday in May. The UK tradition of Mothering Sunday has much older roots tied to the Christian Lenten calendar, falling on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Australia, Canada, and New Zealand adopted the American date.
