How To Use This Free GPA Calculator

The GPA Calculator lets you quickly calculate your Grade Point Average by entering your courses, credit hours, and letter grades. Start
by selecting your grading system from the dropdown – the tool supports US Standard (4.0), US Plus/Minus, US 4.3 scale, Canadian,
Australian 7-point, and Indian 10-point systems. You can also customize every grade’s point value in the Grade Scale section.

Choose whether your courses use different credit hours or equal weights using the radio options at the top. If you’re in a US high
school with Honors, AP, or IB courses, enable the “Honors / AP / IB” option to apply weighted GPA bonuses (+0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for
AP/IB). To calculate your cumulative GPA including previous semesters, check the “Include previous GPA” box and enter your prior GPA and
total credits.

Enter each course’s name (optional), credit hours, and grade in the course grid. Click “Calculate GPA” to see your result with a full
breakdown including quality points, grade distribution, and a visual GPA bar. Use the GPA Planning Calculator section below the result
to find out what GPA you need in future courses to reach a specific target.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my GPA?

To calculate your GPA, multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours, add up all the results (quality points), then divide by your total credit hours. For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course = 12 quality points. The GPA Calculator above does this automatically – just enter your courses and click Calculate.

What is a good GPA in college?

Generally, a GPA of 3.0 or above is considered good, with 3.5 to 4.0 being excellent. A 3.7+ GPA is often needed for competitive graduate programs or honors societies. However, different schools and employers may have their own standards for what constitutes a strong GPA.

How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?

Your cumulative GPA combines all semesters into one overall average. Use the GPA Calculator’s “Include previous GPA” option – enter your existing GPA and total credit hours from prior semesters, then add your current courses. The calculator will compute your new cumulative GPA automatically.

What is a weighted GPA vs unweighted GPA?

An unweighted GPA uses the standard scale (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.) for all courses. A weighted GPA adds bonus points for advanced courses – typically +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP or IB classes. Enable the “Honors / AP / IB” option in the GPA Calculator to compute your weighted GPA.

How do I raise my GPA?

Use the GPA Planning Calculator to find the minimum GPA you need in future courses to reach your target. Enter your current GPA, current credits, target GPA, and how many additional credits you plan to take. The calculator shows the exact GPA required in those future courses.

What GPA scale does my school use?

Most US colleges use a 4.0 scale, either standard (A-F) or plus/minus (A+ through F). Canadian universities commonly use a 4.0 or 4.3 scale. Australian universities typically use a 7-point scale (HD, D, Cr, P, F), and Indian universities use a 10-point CGPA system. Select your system from the dropdown, or customize the point values in the Grade Scale section.

What does GPA stand for?

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It’s a numerical representation of your academic performance calculated by averaging the grade points you earn across all courses, often weighted by credit hours. Most US schools use a 0.0 to 4.0 scale.
