What is the Celtic Cross Tarot Spread?
The Celtic Cross spread is a classic in tarot reading, known for providing detailed answers and insights. It’s made up of ten cards, each representing different aspects of your situation—past influences, present circumstances, challenges, and possible outcomes. It’s commonly used when seeking clarity on a big decision or when you just want general guidance. The Celtic Cross gives a full picture of what’s going on beneath the surface and is a highly adaptable spread. There is a reason why it is so pupular, and why you will be told to learn it from almost any experienced reader.
How To Read The Celtic Cross Tarot Spread
I talked about this in more depth in my Tarot Spread Cheat Sheet Article, but I will mention it agin here briefly. Each spread will have a lot of different interpretations, whether it be the card order, meaning or positioning. Thats okay – there will never be a correct way. There is only the way you choose – BEFORE laying out the cards. Below is my interpretation (and a very common one) – if you decide to change it up a little or use a different interpretation, that is perfectly fine!
Each card in the Celtic Cross has a specific position and meaning:
- Represents your current situation: This card shows where you currently stand and the main theme or issue you are dealing with.
- Represents any obstacles or challenges that may be in the way: This card reveals the main challenge or block that is preventing you from moving forward.
- Represents any potential opportunities: This position highlights any opportunities or strengths that can help you overcome obstacles.
- Represents the foundation of the situation: This card looks at the root cause or underlying factors that have led to the current situation.
- Represents the past: This position reflects past events or influences that are still affecting you now.
- Represents the future: This card offers insight into the near future or the next step on your journey.
- Represents your attitude towards the situation: This card shows how you are approaching the situation emotionally or mentally.
- Represents other people’s attitudes / external influences: This position indicates how those around you, or external forces, are impacting the situation.
- Represents your hopes and fears: This card reflects your deepest desires or concerns about the outcome.
- Represents the likely outcome: The final card offers a glimpse into the most likely result or resolution if things continue as they are.
It’s easy to get lost in all the details, but with practice, you’ll start to see the relationships between the cards and how they tell a story together. You can also download the cheat sheet if you need a gentle reminder with your readings.
