How To Play Football Squares
Football squares is a simple game that anyone can play – no football knowledge required! Here’s a quick breakdown of how to set up and play:
Pick your template: Choose one of the printable football square grids, depending on whether you want a traditional 0-9 format or a randomized version.
Fill in the grid: Write the name of one team across the top of the grid and the other team along the side. You can either assign random numbers (0-9) to each row and column at the beginning or after the squares are filled. In some cases, players like to leave these numbers blank until after each quarter for added unpredictability.
Buy your squares (or give an equal amount to each player if you are playing for fun): Each person buys one or more squares in the grid by writing their name in a blank square. The price per square is usually the same for all participants.
Assign numbers: If you haven’t assigned numbers yet, now’s the time! Use numbers 0-9 to label each row and column. For randomized templates, the numbers can be drawn from a hat to mix up the rows and columns.
Scoring: After each quarter, check the last digit of each team’s score. For example, if the score is Team 1 (14) and Team 2 (7) after the first quarter, find the box where the row labeled “4” and the column labeled “7” intersect. The person who has their name in that box wins!
Continue through the game: You can assign different prizes for each quarter or have a grand prize for the final score. Just be sure to decide the payout system before the game starts.
